University Librarian – Head of Library

About the role

The University Librarian leads the Koforidua Technical University Library, overseeing the provision of up‑to‑date information resources that support teaching, learning and research. Reporting directly to the Vice‑Chancellor, the role ensures the library’s strategic alignment with the university’s vision and mission.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive collection of physical and digital resources to meet the academic needs of faculty and students.
• Manage the library’s budget, procurement, and allocation of resources.
• Ensure equitable access to information services across physical and virtual environments.
• Lead, motivate and supervise library staff, fostering a high‑performance culture.
• Oversee implementation and maintenance of library and records‑management software.
• Collaborate with academic units to support curriculum development and research initiatives.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in Library or Information Science; a PhD is an advantage.
• Minimum six (6) years experience as Deputy Librarian or equivalent senior role in a university setting.
• Member of a professional librarianship or information science body with at least fifteen (15) scholarly publications.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational and staff‑management capabilities.
• Ability to serve a full four‑year term before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60.

Required skills

• Proficiency with library software and records‑management systems.
• Strong computer literacy.
