University Librarian (Head of Library)

About the role

The University Librarian leads the Koforidua Technical University Library, ensuring that up‑to‑date information resources support teaching, learning and research. Reporting directly to the Vice‑Chancellor, the role combines strategic leadership with day‑to‑day library management.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement library policies in line with university statutes and vision.
• Oversee acquisition, cataloguing and provision of physical and digital resources.
• Manage the library budget and ensure equitable access to information services.
• Lead, motivate and supervise library staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Maintain and enhance library software and records‑management systems.
• Promote scholarly communication and support faculty and student research initiatives.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in Library or Information Science; PhD is an advantage.
• Minimum six years experience as Deputy Librarian or equivalent senior role in a university.
• Member of a professional librarianship or information science body.
• At least 15 cumulative scholarly publications.
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational and motivational abilities.
• Able to serve a full four‑year term before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60.

Required skills

• Computer literacy.
