Winder Engine Driver – Underground Mining

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a fully mechanised underground operation. The Winder Engine Driver is responsible for safely operating hoists and cage winders in compliance with LI2182, supporting the target production of up to 5,000 t/day of ore.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and drive winder (Man & Rock) equipment in accordance with LI2182 standards across multiple shafts (Adansi‑3, GCS‑3, BSVS‑3, KMS‑3, KRS‑3).
• Conduct periodic audits, visual checks, motor current and flux data collection, and report anomalies for maintenance planning via SAP.
• Perform daily pre‑start, shift handover checks and complete short‑interval control sheets.
• Monitor operating parameters on the integrated control system, take corrective actions, and log equipment performance on the asset health system.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years experience as a Winder Driver in underground mining.
• Valid Winder Engine Driver’s certificate of competency issued by the Chief Inspector of Mines (LI2182).
• Secondary education background.

Required skills

• Strong Winder Operations competency in underground mining.
• Knowledge of LI2182 regulatory requirements.
• Experience with SAP for work request generation.
• Ability to perform condition monitoring and interpret motor current/flux data.
