Corporate EHS Manager – Building/Construction Projects

About the role

The Corporate EHS Manager will lead the Environment, Health, Safety and Quality (EHQS) discipline for Mawums Limited across all Ghanaian construction projects, quarries, production facilities and support operations. Reporting to the General Manager of the Construction Division, the role provides independent assurance that all activities comply with legal, contractual and corporate EHS requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Implement Mawums’ corporate EHS policy, strategy and annual improvement programme across Ghana.
• Maintain an EHS governance framework with clear accountabilities, controls, reporting lines and escalation thresholds.
• Chair corporate EHS reviews and deliver independent assurance, risk prioritisation and decision recommendations to senior management.
• Maintain a current register of Ghanaian occupational safety, labour, environmental, fire, public‑health and permit requirements and translate them into practical controls.
• Coordinate regulatory inspections, statutory submissions, licence conditions and responses to enforcement actions.
• Establish project‑specific EHS requirements during tender review, mobilisation and major scope changes, and approve EHS, environmental, traffic‑management and emergency plans.
• Set standards for hazard identification, risk assessment, method statements, permit‑to‑work systems and task‑level briefings, ensuring the hierarchy of controls is applied.
• Develop occupational‑health programmes covering fitness for work, medical surveillance, fatigue, heat stress, noise, dust, vibration and ergonomics.
• Ensure appropriate first‑aid, clinic, sanitation, drinking water, accommodation and welfare arrangements at sites and remote facilities.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading EHS functions within a construction or industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of Ghanaian occupational safety, labour, environmental, fire and public‑health regulations.
• Ability to develop and implement EHS policies, standards and improvement programmes.
• Experience coordinating regulatory inspections and managing compliance documentation.
• Demonstrated leadership in promoting a safety‑first culture and engaging workforce consultation.
