Deputy Director of General Services

About the role

The Deputy Director of General Services will support the Director in overseeing the hospital’s facilities, estates and equipment. Reporting to the Director, the role ensures efficient, safe and compliant delivery of biomedical, civil, electrical and mechanical services across the Korle‑Bu Teaching Hospital and its sister agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in ensuring biomedical and civil engineering services are effective and optimised.
• Engage with contractors and system specialists to deliver safe, compliant patient‑care facilities.
• Manage change initiatives, improvement projects and facility upgrades in collaboration with multiple departments.
• Direct scheduling, supervision and performance monitoring of external contractors.
• Prepare specifications and cost estimates for civil and biomedical projects, including materials, labour and equipment.
• Oversee site and building projects carried out by outside contractors.
• Develop standards for cost‑effective energy‑management systems and supervise their operation and maintenance.
• Ensure proper disposal of hazardous and controlled wastes in line with regulations.
• Contribute to strategic planning, forecasting future facilities needs and proposing viable solutions.

Required profile

• BSc or MSc in Biomedical, Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers.
• At least 12 years relevant experience, including 5 years post‑qualification senior management.
• Current level equivalent to Deputy Chief Engineer (Biomedical/Civil/Electrical/Mechanical).
• Demonstrated leadership and continuous professional development in project or construction management.
• Experience in operational and strategic planning, budget development and project evaluation.
