Geotechnical Project Engineer

About the role

As a Geotechnical Project Engineer you will provide engineering support for underground mining and new project development at Newmont's Ahafo South operation in Ghana. You will ensure safe, sustainable and cost‑effective execution of mining activities through rock mass characterization, design, monitoring and risk assessment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct underground geotechnical inspections and rock mass characterisation for development headings, stopes and infrastructure.
• Design, review and optimise ground support systems such as rock bolts, cable bolts, shotcrete, mesh and steel sets.
• Oversee installation, maintenance and quality assurance of ground support elements.
• Perform geotechnical investigations including mapping, core logging, laboratory testing and in‑situ stress measurements.
• Develop and maintain monitoring systems (convergence stations, extensometers, micro‑seismic monitoring) to track excavation performance.
• Support Ground Control Management Plans, Ground Support Management Plans, Trigger Action Response Plans and risk registers.
• Analyse data and prepare technical reports, design recommendations and risk assessments for mine planning.
