Manager, Networks Power Operations – GSM

About the role

The Manager, Networks Power Operations – GSM will lead the planning, operation and maintenance of power infrastructure for MTN’s GSM network sites across Accra and the Tema region. The role ensures continuous power availability, optimises energy use and supports the company’s ESG commitments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies for managing generators, solar systems and backup power solutions for GSM sites.
• Monitor power supply, optimise consumption and reduce operational costs.
• Lead maintenance and repair activities, enforce preventative schedules and maintain performance records.
• Manage a team of power engineers and technicians, fostering safety, professionalism and continuous improvement.
• Prepare and control the power operations budget, track fuel, solar and battery expenses and identify cost‑saving opportunities.
• Track system performance, generate uptime and fuel usage reports, and use data analytics to forecast requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors, internal departments and regulators to ensure compliance and resolve power‑related issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Power Systems or related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in power operations, preferably in telecom/GSM, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership, integrity and ability to work in a performance‑driven environment.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
• In‑depth knowledge of electrical infrastructure and AC/DC power systems.
• Generator installation, operation and maintenance.
• UPS, rectifier, solar, inverter, ATS and relay systems.
• Cooling systems and energy‑efficiency technologies.
• Business continuity management and power‑performance analytics.
