About the role
The Missionary Training Center (MTC) in Ghana seeks a part‑time Teacher to support missionaries in their spiritual and language development over a 24‑month fixed‑term contract. The role involves delivering curriculum‑based instruction, coaching, and facilitating learning experiences both in‑person and via the Canvas online platform.
Key responsibilities
- Provide instruction, direction, counsel, and feedback to missionaries through one‑on‑one coaching, small‑group facilitation, large‑group workshops, and Canvas discussion boards.
- Plan and prepare lessons following the approved curriculum, coordinating with a companion teacher when applicable.
- Direct missionaries in planning and accounting for their learning.
- Implement guidance from the Teacher Trainer/Supervisor, Manager of Training, and Senior Manager of Training.
- Attend weekly training meetings and co‑teacher meetings.
- Assist area leadership in coordinating with mission and Missionary Department leadership as requested.
- Report on task progress and needs to leadership.
- Coach missionaries in preparation for practice and live lessons.
- May assess proficiency levels of missionaries and teacher applicants in the target language.
- May role‑play as a non‑member interested in learning about the Church and serve as Training Area Assistant for temporary duties.
Required profile
- Must be a returned missionary.
- Fluency in the specified second language (for language‑teaching positions).
- Outstanding coaching, facilitation and training abilities.
- Knowledge of the “Preach My Gospel” curriculum.
- Excellent interpersonal, prioritizing, professionalism and leadership skills.
- Self‑motivated and able to work well with people.
- Willingness to receive and implement feedback.
- Understanding of effective language‑learning strategies (for language‑teaching positions).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English and the second language (or non‑verbal for ASL teachers).
Required skills
- Fluency in English.
- Fluency in the specified second language (or ASL for sign‑language teachers).
- Proficiency with the Canvas learning platform.
- Ability to develop lesson plans following an approved curriculum.
