Airborne Sensor Operator

About the role

Leidos is seeking experienced Airborne Sensor Operators to support US Army Geospatial Center missions on the HR3DGI program. Operators will fly on multi‑position aircraft, collect wide‑area remote‑sensing data and ensure the safe operation of sophisticated sensor suites.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain GPS, radio communication, TDCL, mIRC and other ISR equipment during ground and flight phases.
• Conduct mission planning, execution, briefing, debriefing and safety checks for each deployment.
• Collect, verify and log data from airborne LiDAR and electro‑optical sensors, ensuring accuracy and quality.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to small crew teams, set objectives and supervise performance.
• Generate weekly sensor health and degradation reports and troubleshoot hardware/software issues.
• Coordinate with pilots, chief sensor operators, site managers and processing teams to plan and execute missions.

Required profile

• Minimum four years of relevant experience in airborne ISR or remote‑sensing operations.
• Demonstrated ability to function safely as an aircrew member in tactical environments.
• Leadership and mentorship experience managing small teams.
• Willingness to deploy on 2‑3 month rotations in CONUS or OCONUS locations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment.
• Experience operating radio communication systems and Tactical Common Data Link (TDCL).
• Knowledge of Internet Relay Chat (mIRC) for mission communications.
• Hands‑on experience with airborne LiDAR and electro‑optical (EO) sensors.
• Ability to maintain and troubleshoot hardware and software networks related to sensor suites.
