Clinical Mentor – Newborn Respiratory Care Project

About the role

The Clinical Mentor will provide technical leadership to strengthen the clinical competence of frontline healthcare providers in newborn respiratory care across district hospitals in Accra, Ghana. This 18‑month fixed‑term position focuses on reducing preventable newborn deaths through mentorship, simulation‑based learning and quality improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of competency‑based mentorship and simulation‑based learning programmes for newborn respiratory care.
• Conduct bedside coaching, supportive supervision and on‑site training sessions for healthcare staff.
• Develop and adapt training materials, tools and protocols aligned with national guidelines.
• Monitor provider performance and newborn outcomes using existing DHIMS2 and facility registers.
• Collaborate closely with the Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Health and Project HOPE senior technical advisors.
• Report progress, challenges and results to the Senior Technical Advisor – MNCH.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with at least five years of experience in newborn care and clinical mentorship.
• Proven experience working in low‑resource or district hospital settings.
• Strong knowledge of newborn respiratory conditions and stabilization techniques.
• Excellent communication skills in English and ability to work collaboratively with local health authorities.
