Clinical Mentor – Newborn Respiratory Care Project

About the role

The Clinical Mentor will lead technical efforts to strengthen newborn respiratory care across district hospitals in Accra, Ghana. Working under the Senior Technical Advisor for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, the mentor will guide frontline providers in identifying, stabilising, and managing newborns with respiratory distress.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver competency‑based mentorship programmes, including simulation‑based learning and bedside coaching.
• Provide supportive supervision and quality‑improvement interventions to enhance clinical performance.
• Collaborate with Project HOPE staff, Ghana Health Service, regional health directorates, and hospital management to integrate evidence‑based newborn care practices.
• Monitor and report on mentorship outcomes using existing DHIMS2 data and standard monitoring tools.
• Support the development and use of continuous quality improvement (CQI) tools within participating facilities.

Required profile

• Professional nursing or medical background with extensive experience in neonatal or newborn respiratory care.
• Proven experience in clinical mentorship, simulation training, or supportive supervision.
• Strong ability to work with government health systems and NGOs in a collaborative environment.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
