Customs Clearance Officer

About the role

The Customs Clearance Officer will manage daily import customs clearance, freight forwarding, and port logistics operations in Accra. You will coordinate with clearing agents, monitor container movements, and ensure minimal delays and demurrage costs.

Key responsibilities

• Track and follow up clearing agents to guarantee timely customs clearance.
• Oversee air cargo clearances and third‑party clearance activities.
• Identify and resolve exceptions during the clearance process.
• Maintain data integrity in the ICUMS customs management system.
• Monitor shipments via the MPS portal, especially during system migration.
• Audit logistics fees and agent invoices for accuracy.
• Track container arrivals, diversions, off‑loading, and empty‑container returns to avoid demurrage.
• Coordinate warehouse teams for off‑loading schedules and resolve on‑site challenges.
• Support logistics initiatives such as the Site 10 project.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Import/Export Customs Operations, Logistics, Terminal Operations, Freight Forwarding or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in freight forwarding, highway transport, port/terminal yards, or supply‑chain logistics.
• Strong knowledge of Ghanaian customs clearance procedures, shipping‑line workflows, and port‑terminal processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ICUMS (Customs Management System).
• Experience using the MPS portal for shipment tracking.
