Data Scientist

About the role

Wave is building financial services to make Africa cashless. As a Data Scientist you will partner with product and operations teams to turn data into actionable insights that improve credit scoring, fraud detection, field operations and user promotions.

Key responsibilities

• Generate insights from customer, merchant and internal data using statistical modelling, data visualisation and machine learning.
• Design, implement and analyse optimisations for internal operations, user promotions and agent networks to scale and reduce costs.
• Build data‑driven heuristics and machine‑learning models to improve user and business outcomes.
• Own the analytics process from project scoping and design to communicating findings to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field; Master’s or PhD a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in data science, machine learning or technical analytics roles.
• Highly effective written communication and presentation skills.
• Fluency in English; French is a plus.

Required skills

• Deep expertise with Python and SQL.
• Proficiency with data visualisation tools.
• Experience in machine learning, causal inference, statistical modelling or A/B testing.
