Dewatering Pump Technician – 1-Year Contract

About the role
The Dewatering Pump Technician will install, inspect, maintain, repair and overhaul underground and surface dewatering pumps and associated equipment to ensure safe and continuous water removal from the mine.
Key responsibilities
- Install, level, align, couple and commission multistage centrifugal, submersible and positive‑displacement pumps according to drawings and manufacturer instructions.
- Strip, inspect and overhaul pumps, including impellers, wear rings, shafts, sleeves, bearings, mechanical seals and gland packing, setting clearances to specification.
- Maintain and repair pump columns, discharge pipework, flanges, non‑return and isolation valves, and resolve leaks or blockages.
- Diagnose pump issues such as cavitation, seal leakage, overheating, vibration or bearing failure and implement root‑cause solutions.
- Monitor performance parameters (pressure, flow, motor current, temperature, vibration) and act on deviations.
- Carry out preventive maintenance, lubrication and support shutdown overhauls, completing work orders and documentation accurately.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 3 years relevant experience, or Technician Part III Certificate with 5 years practical experience in mining or heavy industry.
- Minimum 3–5 years experience in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and overhaul of dewatering pump systems, columns, valves and related mechanical equipment.
- Relevant certifications such as MINCOM, permit‑to‑work, LOTO, working at heights, confined‑space entry, rigging & slinging and first‑aid are highly desirable.
Required skills
- Advanced proficiency in installing, maintaining and overhauling multistage centrifugal, submersible and positive‑displacement dewatering pumps.
- Expertise with pump columns, pipework, isolation and non‑return valves, mechanical seals, bearings, couplings and drive systems.
- Competence in shaft alignment, precision measurement, lubrication practices and mechanical fault diagnosis.
- Ability to perform preventive and breakdown maintenance safely within a mining environment.
