Director, Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy

About the role

The University of Ghana seeks a senior academic leader to establish and head the newly created Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA). The Director will shape the centre’s research, teaching, and advocacy agenda, ensuring that disability rights are embedded in university culture and broader society.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the set‑up and operationalisation of CEDSA.
• Implement the centre’s objectives across research, teaching, short courses, and support services.
• Oversee the administration of human, financial, and material resources in line with university policies.
• Ensure approved programmes are delivered effectively by centre staff.
• Collaborate with the College of Humanities to develop graduate and short‑course offerings.
• Promote a collegial working environment and maintain compliance with university statutes.

Required profile

• Professorial status in an academic or research institution, or equivalent senior industry experience.
• Demonstrated academic leadership in teaching, research, and extension within relevant disciplines.
• Proven managerial and administrative experience, with ability to foster teamwork.
• Track record of attracting research and development funding.
• Visionary drive to grow the centre and advance disability inclusion.
