Full Stack Health Intelligence Engineer Intern

About the role

Voima is a digital health startup focused on chronic care management for sickle cell disease. We are looking for a Health Intelligence Engineer Intern to design and prototype a WhatsApp‑based system that captures patient‑generated health data and turns it into continuous intelligence.

Key responsibilities

• Prototype a WhatsApp check‑in workflow for patients to log pain, sleep, hydration, medication and symptoms.
• Process multimodal inputs, including unstructured text and voice notes via speech‑to‑text.
• Integrate patient data with environmental metrics such as local weather and temperature.
• Build automated pipelines that generate personalized preventive guidance and caregiver alerts.
• Assist in designing backend architecture that can later connect with clinician tools.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience or strong interest in the WhatsApp Business Platform / Cloud API.
• Background in backend engineering, webhooks, microservices or API development.
• Interest in HealthTech, digital health infrastructure, especially for the African context.
• Familiarity with conversational AI, AI agents, data engineering or voice AI (STT/NLP) is a plus.
