Government Relations Specialist

About the role

The Government Relations Specialist will serve as the strategic liaison between IJM Ghana and government actors, civil society, and other key stakeholders. The role focuses on influencing policy, strengthening systems, and advancing IJM’s mission to protect vulnerable people from trafficking and exploitation.

Key responsibilities

• Influence government institutions to enforce Ghana’s laws on child trafficking and support IJM’s casework model.
• Represent IJM at national‑level engagements and evaluate government responsiveness to violence and exploitation issues.
• Develop and maintain relationships with MPs, government agencies, implementing partners, and other influencers.
• Guide partners in engaging government systems in line with IJM’s protection and justice frameworks.
• Analyze policies and stakeholder relationships to identify gaps and recommend actionable strategies.
• Facilitate multi‑stakeholder platforms, capacity‑building workshops, and training for government personnel.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, International Relations, Law, Development Studies or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum five years of experience in government relations, public affairs, advocacy or stakeholder engagement.
• Strong knowledge of Ghana’s public sector, legislative processes and decision‑making mechanisms.
• Proven ability to build and influence strategic relationships with government officials and key stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills, with high professionalism and integrity.
