Health & Safety Technician

About the role

Our client is looking for a proactive and detail‑oriented Health & Safety Technician to support the implementation and maintenance of workplace health, safety and environmental (HSE) standards in Accra. The role involves conducting inspections, assisting with incident investigations and helping to deliver safety training to promote a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out routine workplace inspections, identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of HSE policies, ensuring compliance with local regulations and company standards.
• Assist in risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and safety audits.
• Investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses, document findings and help drive corrective actions.
• Monitor the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safe work practices.
• Deliver or coordinate safety inductions, toolbox talks and employee awareness programmes.
• Maintain accurate HSE records, inspection reports, incident logs and compliance documentation.
• Conduct fire safety inspections and support emergency preparedness drills.
• Support environmental compliance initiatives such as waste management and pollution prevention.
• Liaise with supervisors, employees and contractors to resolve safety concerns and promote continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in a Health & Safety, HSE or Occupational Safety role.
• Good understanding of occupational health and safety regulations and risk‑management principles.
• Strong report‑writing, documentation and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations and risk assessments.
• Knowledge of emergency response procedures and fire safety practices.
