Matron – Facility Welfare & Housekeeping Supervisor

About the role

The Matron oversees the daily welfare, safety, cleanliness, and overall well‑being of residents, clients or patients within a care or health facility. Working closely with management, the Matron ensures that high standards of hygiene, housekeeping and service are consistently maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate housekeeping, cleaning, and hygiene activities across rooms, common areas, kitchens and washrooms.
• Monitor resident comfort, meal service, and essential support services to ensure timely and hygienic delivery.
• Maintain records of supplies, linen, equipment and monitor resource usage to minimise waste.
• Report maintenance issues, safety concerns and operational challenges to management promptly.
• Ensure compliance with health‑and‑safety policies, infection‑prevention protocols and relevant regulations.
• Conduct regular inspections, address complaints, and uphold a respectful, disciplined environment.
• Assist in orientating and supervising new housekeeping or support staff.

Required profile

• Diploma or certificate in Hospitality Management, Catering, Home Economics or a related field (advantageous).
• Previous experience in a matron, housekeeper or similar supervisory role.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to maintain accurate reports.
