Mortuary Assistant & Funeral Director

About the role

The Mortuary Assistant & Funeral Director will support the respectful handling of deceased individuals and coordinate all aspects of funeral services for families in Accra and the surrounding region. This full‑time position requires a compassionate approach, strong organisational skills, and the ability to work under sensitive circumstances.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, transfer, identify, and accurately document deceased persons.
• Assist with mortuary preparation, embalming, dressing, and presentation of the deceased.
• Coordinate funeral arrangements with families, hospitals, cemeteries, churches, clergy, and other service providers.
• Arrange transportation, hearse services, pallbearers, chapel services, decorations, and related logistics.
• Maintain mortuary records, equipment, hygiene standards, and ensure confidentiality.
• Provide clear information and guidance to families throughout the funeral planning process.
• Perform additional duties related to mortuary and funeral operations as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a mortuary, funeral home, or related field is an advantage.
• HND or Certificate in Mortuary Science is a plus.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with families.
• Compassionate, respectful, and emotionally mature.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive situations professionally.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
