Mortuary Technician – Hospital (Accra)

About the role

The Mortuary Technician will receive and release bodies, assist with post‑mortem examinations and provide compassionate support to relatives. Working in the new Bank Hospital mortuary in Accra, the role ensures the facility meets the highest standards of cleanliness, safety and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain mortuary cleanliness, safety and equipment efficiency.
• Accept, store and release bodies under proper conditions.
• Prepare bodies for post‑mortem examinations and restore them after autopsy.
• Handle and label specimens for histology, photography or research.
• Liaise with funeral parlour representatives and portering staff.
• Escort and communicate sympathetically with relatives of the deceased.
• Assist with high‑risk post‑mortems and specialised techniques such as brain and spinal cord removal.
• Support tissue donation services and national blood service collections.
• Maintain consumables, reagents and stock control.
• Participate in incident investigations, document control and compliance reporting.

Required profile

• Diploma in Anatomical Pathology or equivalent and membership of a professional body.
• Minimum two years’ experience in a mortuary, preferably in a private hospital.
• Fluent verbal and written English communication.
• Computer literate.
• Ability to handle bodies safely and work accurately, neatly and efficiently.
• Flexible approach to working hours and strong organisational skills.
