Polywelder Pump Person

About the role

The Polywelder Pump Person supports the de‑watering and water‑management operations at Newmont’s Accra Hub in Ghana. Working onsite, you will weld and join HDPE (poly) pipes, install and operate pumps, and ensure safe transfer of water from pit sumps to designated ponds.

Key responsibilities

• Receive instructions from the Dewatering Supervisor and plan pump operations.
• Inspect pipelines, valves, pump fuel levels, sumps and boreholes for leaks or defects before work.
• Install pumps and connect HDPE pipelines in a staged approach, performing pre‑start quality checks on pumps and polywelding equipment.
• Take flow‑meter readings, monitor pressure, RPM and vacuum gauges, and record data on KPI sheets.
• Report any defects to the Maintenance Supervisor and coordinate fuel and water‑truck logistics.
• Disconnect pumps for blasting activities and install standpipes for dust control.
• Ensure continuous pit de‑watering by monitoring pump performance and preventing pipeline failures.

Required profile

• Experience in mining or industrial water‑management environments.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and work under supervision.
• Good physical stamina for onsite installation and maintenance tasks.

Required skills

• HDPE pipe welding (polywelding) and joining techniques.
• Pump operation and maintenance.
• Use of flow meters, pressure gauges, RPM and vacuum gauges.
• Basic inspection and defect reporting.
