Senior Democratic Governance Advisor (Technical Specialist)

About the role

The Senior Democratic Governance Advisor will provide professional, technical, strategic and advisory support to the Ghana Programme Governance Team. Working closely with DFATD’s Ghana team, the advisor will analyse democratic governance issues and guide programme design and implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct analysis of democratic governance trends and challenges in Ghana.
• Provide technical advice to ensure resource‑efficient programming that aligns with DFATD’s development objectives.
• Integrate gender equality and environmental sustainability into governance initiatives.
• Support the linkage of democratic governance with Canada’s bilateral sectoral focus.
• Contribute to better development outcomes through evidence‑based recommendations.

Required profile

• Ghanaian citizen with legal right to work in Ghana.
• Master’s degree or equivalent in development economics, political science, international development, public administration, sociology, human rights, gender equality, or related field.
• Minimum five years recent experience advising on democratic governance (within the last ten years).

Required skills

• Expertise in democratic governance advisory and analysis.
• Knowledge of gender equality and environmental sustainability integration.
• Project management and development planning capabilities.
