Senior Emergency Preparedness & Response Officer

About the role

The Senior Emergency Preparedness & Response Officer will lead technical support and guidance for the STRIDES emergency response activities in Ghana. This role oversees rapid response teams, ensures alignment with workplans, and drives capacity‑building initiatives to strengthen infectious disease detection and outbreak response.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day implementation of emergency preparedness and response activities across Ghana.
• Supervise STRIDES technical staff and rapid response team members, ensuring activities follow approved workplans.
• Develop and monitor technical strengthening initiatives, including training strategies and capacity‑building events.
• Prepare donor deliverable reports, publications, and external communications highlighting project achievements.
• Coordinate with USG, host‑country government, and in‑country partners to align outbreak response efforts.
• Provide input on national guidelines and normative policies for emergency and outbreak response.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in emergency preparedness, outbreak response, or infectious disease surveillance.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in complex, rapidly evolving situations.
• Strong judgment in developing methods and evaluation criteria for emerging health threats.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
