Shaft Mechanical Supervisor

About the role

The Shaft Mechanical Supervisor oversees the inspection, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of shaft mechanical infrastructure for both surface and underground mining operations. The role ensures maximum equipment reliability, availability and operational efficiency while complying with engineering standards, statutory regulations and mine safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise inspection, maintenance, repair and overhaul of shaft mechanical equipment and infrastructure.
• Coordinate preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities to keep shaft operations safe and reliable.
• Lead mechanical troubleshooting, equipment failure analysis and root‑cause analysis to improve reliability.
• Allocate manpower, tools and resources, and monitor equipment condition to identify defects and schedule corrective actions.
• Manage planned maintenance shutdowns and emergency breakdown repairs to minimise downtime.
• Ensure compliance with maintenance schedules, engineering procedures, statutory regulations and company safety standards, including Permit‑to‑Work requirements.
• Supervise contractors and maintenance personnel to maintain required quality and safety standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree/HND in Mechanical, Mining or Plant Engineering or equivalent, with at least 5 years supervisory experience.
• Technician Part III Certificate (Mechanical) with a minimum of 5 years practical experience in shaft mechanical maintenance.
• Valid MINCOM Certification, Mine Safety Supervisory Certification, Permit‑to‑Work system training and Risk Assessment training.
• Additional certifications in Lifting and Hoisting Operations, Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out, First Aid, Root‑Cause Analysis and CMMS/SAP are advantageous.

• Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO) procedures and lifting/hoisting operations.
