Social Media Intern – UNIC Accra

About the role

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Accra is seeking a Social Media Intern to support its digital communications, online engagement and multimedia storytelling. The role will help raise the visibility of UN priorities in Ghana through content creation and community interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in drafting, editing and publishing social media content for platforms such as X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and emerging digital platforms.
• Create multimedia content including short videos, reels, graphics, photo stories and infographics tailored for Ghanaian audiences.
• Support localization of global UN campaigns, monitor trends, manage a content calendar and ensure alignment with UN values.
• Engage with online communities, monitor comments, flag misinformation and support live coverage of UN events.
• Conduct research on digital media trends, track analytics and prepare basic performance reports.
• Provide administrative support for meetings, webinars, newsletters and maintain digital archives.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or have completed the final year of a bachelor’s degree, or a graduate programme (master’s or Ph.D.).
• Strong interest in UN priorities such as sustainable development, peace, climate action and information integrity.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of French, Ghanaian languages or another UN language is desirable.

Required skills

• Familiarity with major social media platforms.
• Basic proficiency in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut or similar multimedia editing tools.
• Competence in Microsoft Office and digital collaboration tools.
