About the role
The Supervisor – Welding will lead welding, fabrication and maintenance activities within the crushing plant at Iduapriem Gold Mine. The role ensures safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant equipment while maintaining structural integrity and supporting plant availability.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, schedule and direct daily fabrication, welding and structural maintenance tasks for routine operations, projects and shutdowns.
- Lead, mentor and manage boilermakers, fitters and contract welders, monitoring quality, productivity and attendance.
- Enforce HSE protocols, conduct Job Safety Analyses and manage Hot Work permits to achieve zero‑harm operations.
- Perform pre‑weld inspections, verify fit‑up, monitor welding parameters and coordinate NDT (dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic).
- Interpret engineering drawings, structural blueprints, piping schematics and Welding Procedure Specifications.
- Oversee welding equipment, cutting tools, riggers and crane lifts; manage inventory of steel, consumables and gas cylinders.
- Coordinate urgent repairs and wear‑liner replacements during plant turnarounds to minimise downtime.
- Prepare daily progress reports, log hours, track consumable usage and manage resources within budget.
Required profile
- Diploma, Trade Certificate or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication, Welding or related discipline; welding inspector certification (AWS CWI, CSWIP 3.1) preferred.
- 8–10 years experience in heavy structural steel fabrication and plant maintenance, with 3–5 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience using SAP or a Computerised Maintenance Management System.
- Valid Ghanaian driving licence and ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Required skills
- SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW and oxy‑fuel/plasma cutting techniques.
- Reading and interpreting engineering, structural and isometric drawings.
- Non‑Destructive Testing methods: dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic.
- Knowledge of welding codes (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API 1104).
- Proficiency with SAP or other CMMS platforms.
- Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel and MS Project.
