Closure Superintendent

About the role

The Closure Superintendent will lead the development and execution of closure and rehabilitation programmes for the Obuasi Gold Mine, ensuring compliance with Ghanaian environmental regulations and company commitments. This senior position reports to senior management and works closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver safe, cost‑effective closure outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain closure processes, operational readiness plans and quarterly rolling 18‑month updates.
• Develop and manage the annual closure cost centre budget and monitor performance against KPIs.
• Provide safety leadership and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the closure team.
• Coordinate reclamation planning, liability estimation and decommissioning activities.
• Manage and supervise contractors delivering reclamation and bulk earthworks.
• Maintain constructive relationships with regulatory agencies, the Minerals Commission and internal corporate functions.

Required profile

• University degree in Environmental or Natural Resources Management, Biology, Agriculture or Civil Engineering; postgraduate study in environmental studies is a plus.
• Over 5 years of experience in environmental rehabilitation, ecological restoration, erosion control or related construction/agricultural fields, preferably at a supervisory level.
• Strong knowledge of Ghanaian environmental laws and permitting processes.
