Deputy Director of Finance

About the role

The University seeks a dynamic, self‑motivated senior finance professional to support the Director of Finance in managing the institution’s financial operations. This full‑time position involves overseeing accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting in line with the Technical Universities Act and public sector standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Finance in overall management and administration of the finance office.
• Coordinate preparation of consolidated financial statements and management accounts.
• Prepare quarterly university management accounts and semester financial reports.
• Supervise monthly financial reports of faculties and internally generated fund units.
• Manage receivables, revenue, payables and reconciliation of internally generated funds.
• Ensure compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) and government regulations.
• Develop, implement and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures.
• Oversee the preparation of the university’s operating budget, multi‑year fiscal planning and annual audit coordination.
• Prepare monthly variance reports.

Required profile

• Research Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting or Accounting & Finance.
• Chartered accountant membership (e.g., ACCA, ICA, CPA, CPFA, CIMA).
• Minimum six years as a Senior Accountant in a university or ten years of managerial experience in industry or public practice.
• Evidence of scholarly work for external assessment.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and result‑oriented mindset.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and team‑working abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software applications.
• Financial modelling capability.
