Deputy Director, Research & Development

About the role

The Deputy Director of Research & Development will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of Korle‑Bu Teaching Hospital. The role is responsible for shaping and implementing the hospital’s research strategy, ensuring alignment with national health priorities and fostering a robust research culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an overarching research strategy that aligns with global trends, national agendas, and the hospital’s mission.
• Coordinate and supervise all research activities, ensuring compliance with ethical standards and the hospital’s research policy.
• Implement a research capacity‑development programme to support service delivery and staff capability.
• Mobilise resources, lead fundraising initiatives, and manage the allocation of research funds.
• Foster collaborations with external partners, universities, industry, and international research networks.
• Oversee the registration, patenting, and commercialization of intellectual property arising from research.

Required profile

• Advanced postgraduate degree (PhD or equivalent) in a health‑related field.
• Minimum five years of clinical research experience, including senior management or supervisory roles.
• Proven track record of securing research grants and publishing in high‑impact journals.
• Broad knowledge of health sector policies, research ethics, and quality assurance processes.
• Demonstrated leadership, team‑building, and capacity‑development skills.
