Deputy Regional Director

About the role

Direct Relief is seeking a Deputy Regional Director to support its expanding programmatic work across Sub‑Saharan Africa. Reporting to the Regional Director, Africa, the incumbent will help drive strategic initiatives, identify new opportunities, and strengthen existing health‑focused programs.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Regional Director in leading programmatic activities and strategic growth across Africa.
• Support the implementation of goals to expand medical material and financial support to regional healthcare providers.
• Conceptualize and develop new opportunities aligned with Direct Relief’s mission, collaborating with internal teams and external partners.
• Represent Direct Relief at meetings, presentations, and events with pharmaceutical executives, government officials, strategic partners, and healthcare leaders.
• Facilitate internal collaboration to support new and existing opportunities in the Africa region.
• Provide insight on regional health and healthcare issues, communicating key information to internal and external audiences.
• Review needs assessments and recommend optimal support for regional partners.
• Identify and address operational barriers, including regulatory requirements, importation challenges, and customs issues.

Required profile

• Must be located in the continent of Africa.
• Proven ability to support strategic initiatives and program implementation.
• Strong communication skills for internal and external audiences.
• Experience collaborating with government health officials, corporations, and international agencies.
