Director of Nursing Services

About the role

The Director of Nursing Services will provide strategic leadership and direction to nursing and midwifery teams at a leading public teaching hospital. This senior role ensures high‑quality clinical practice, supports professional development, and contributes to the institution’s research and policy agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Set and evaluate nursing and midwifery practice standards in line with council regulations.
• Promote and monitor quality‑assurance systems across all nursing services.
• Advise on staffing needs, ensuring equitable distribution of personnel.
• Monitor performance, provide mentorship, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop, implement, and disseminate nursing policies and recruitment strategies.
• Safeguard staff welfare and actively participate in research, development, and strategic planning.
• Prepare and submit regular reports to the Chief Executive.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse or Midwife with a postgraduate qualification (Master’s degree) recognized by the Ghana Nursing and Midwifery Council.
• Minimum of three years experience as Deputy Chief Nursing Officer or equivalent senior nursing leadership role.
• Demonstrated leadership, problem‑solving, advocacy, and negotiation abilities.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and team‑player skills.
• Ability to work independently under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
