Director of Works and Physical Development

About the role

The University seeks a senior leader to oversee all works, construction, and physical development activities across the campus. This full‑time position reports directly to the Vice‑Chancellor and plays a strategic role in land use, infrastructure planning, and project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise all construction works and contracts to ensure compliance with industry standards and specifications.
• Oversee management of construction contracts, monitoring progress and ensuring timely delivery.
• Advise on procurement of consultancy services for major projects.
• Manage and maintain university buildings, roads, drains, parks, and gardens, including design and drawing reviews.
• Provide guidance on land‑use management and control.
• Counsel the Vice‑Chancellor and University Council on land and development matters.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the Vice‑Chancellor.

Required profile

• Minimum Master’s degree in Built Environment with a professional qualification (e.g., GhIE, GhIS, GIA).
• At least 6 years of experience as Deputy Director of Works and Physical Development or equivalent senior role in a university or similar institution.
• Proven leadership experience with the ability to motivate and manage staff.
• High sense of industry standards, organisational skills and results‑orientation.
• Visionary mindset with capacity to develop strategic plans for campus infrastructure.
• Computer literate.
