Engineering Superintendent – Pastefill & Material Handling

About the role

The Engineering Superintendent – Pastefill & Material Handling will lead the development, implementation and maintenance of material handling plants and pastefill operations at the Obuasi Gold Mine. Reporting to senior mine management, you will ensure plant availability, safety compliance and cost‑effective performance.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and monitor the Safety Management plan for all material handling and pastefill assets.
• Provide technical input to maintenance, refurbishment, planning and construction managers to align safety and engineering standards.
• Review and enforce safety standards, aiming for zero reportable environmental incidents and compliance breaches.
• Optimize energy consumption per tonne of ore produced.
• Establish and lead the Pastefill and Material Handling Engineering team, defining structure and succession plans.
• Communicate policies and procedures to achieve full understanding and compliance.
• Develop and maintain a skills matrix, identify gaps and implement corrective actions.
• Advise refurbishment projects on best‑practice engineering, approve execution plans, testing, commissioning and hand‑over documentation.

Required profile

• Experienced, self‑motivated engineering professional with a background in underground mining operations.
• Proven leadership ability to build and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of safety management systems and integrated mine services maintenance strategies.

• Material handling plant engineering (conveyors, crushers, chutes).
• Pastefill plant maintenance and minor project execution.
