About the role
The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the upkeep, repair, and reliability of the company's owned trucks, trailers, and commercial vehicles. This role ensures that all vehicles are maintained safely, efficiently, and in line with company standards.
Key responsibilities
- Manage maintenance and repair of self‑owned trucks, trailers, and commercial vehicles.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance (PM) schedules.
- Diagnose and coordinate repairs for breakdowns and major mechanical faults.
- Supervise maintenance technicians, assign tasks, and inspect work quality.
- Oversee diesel engines, transmissions, braking, suspension, steering, electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Analyze recurring faults and conduct root‑cause analysis.
- Manage procurement, usage, and inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials.
- Ensure safety compliance for all maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate records of servicing, breakdowns, and component replacements.
- Monitor maintenance costs, parts consumption, repair efficiency, and vehicle availability.
- Coordinate with drivers to identify defects and arrange timely repairs.
- Manage relationships with external workshops and service providers.
- Conduct regular vehicle inspections to confirm safety and operability.
- Prepare reports on maintenance status, breakdown rates, costs, and availability.
Required profile
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Technology or related field.
- 3–5 years experience in commercial or heavy‑duty vehicle maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or workshop‑management role.
- Experience maintaining trucks, trailers, or heavy‑duty commercial vehicles preferred.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, braking, suspension, steering, and electrical systems.
- Understanding of preventive and breakdown maintenance practices.
- Experience in spare‑parts management and maintenance cost control.
- Knowledge of vehicle safety inspections and road safety regulations.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and coordination abilities.
