Head of Financial Services & Regulatory Affairs West Africa

About the role

M-KOPA is seeking a senior leader to shape its financial services regulatory strategy across West Africa. Reporting to the Director of Compliance, you will drive licensing, regulatory engagement and compliance frameworks for markets such as Ghana and Nigeria.

Key responsibilities

• Own M-KOPA’s financial services regulatory strategy for West Africa.
• Engage senior regulators and industry bodies in Nigeria and Ghana.
• Lead licensing and authorisation processes, including the DCSP licence in Ghana and financial services licences in Nigeria.
• Monitor regulatory developments, assess impact and embed requirements into product design.
• Oversee responses to examinations, regulatory reporting and high‑stakes supervisory submissions.
• Maintain and improve compliance policies, regulatory playbooks and control frameworks.
• Drive regulatory training and first‑line ownership across markets.

Required profile

• Proven track record in financial services compliance, regulatory affairs or in‑house legal roles within a regulated environment (digital credit, lending, payments, fintech or banking).
• Experience leading licensing, authorisation and supervisory engagements at a senior level.
• Deep knowledge of financial services regulatory frameworks, conduct risk, consumer protection, AML/CFT and data protection.
• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Compliance, Finance or a related field; professional qualification (bar admission, CAMS, ICA) is a plus.
