Head of Internal Audit

About the role

The Head of Internal Audit will lead the internal audit function for Coastal Commerce Microfinance Ltd, ensuring robust risk management and control frameworks across all branches and departments. Reporting to senior management and the Board, this role is pivotal in safeguarding the institution’s financial integrity and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a risk‑based internal audit plan.
• Conduct audits of branches, departments, financial statements, operations, and IT systems.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and risk‑management processes.
• Identify control weaknesses, irregularities, and potential risk areas.
• Prepare detailed audit reports with corrective recommendations.
• Follow up on management’s implementation of audit recommendations.
• Report significant findings to senior management and the Board.
• Assess compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Support investigations into suspected irregularities.
• Promote continuous improvement in governance and internal controls.

Required profile

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing or a related discipline.
• Professional qualification such as ICAG, ACCA, CIA preferred.
• 5–7 years of audit experience, preferably in banking or financial services.
• High ethical standards, integrity and independence.
• Strong leadership, decision‑making and communication skills.
• Analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Understanding of regulatory and corporate‑governance requirements.
• Ability to work under pressure and deliver measurable results.
