Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor – Ghana

About the role

PATH is seeking an Infectious Disease Surveillance Advisor to lead technical aspects of the STRIDES project in Ghana. The advisor will support the strengthening of surveillance, detection and analytical capacity for human and animal health diseases across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day technical and operational support for surveillance activities in Ghana.
• Develop, coordinate and implement epidemiological and laboratory surveillance of zoonotic, epidemic‑ and pandemic‑prone diseases.
• Lead outbreak investigations at regional and national levels and ensure alignment with work plans.
• Review and revise project and donor reports, draft publications and external communications.
• Collaborate with ministries of health, district health staff, and international and national development partners.
• Contribute to national guidelines, normative policies and Joint External Evaluation results.
• Produce and disseminate high‑quality data products such as situation reports, bulletins and health risk assessments.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or international equivalent) in epidemiology, public health, veterinary medicine or a related field.
• Subject‑matter expertise in human and animal disease surveillance.
• Proven experience working with government health agencies and development partners.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.
