Infrastructure Technician – Civil/Construction

About the role

The Infrastructure Technician will support on‑site civil and structural construction activities, ensuring works comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. The role involves concrete quality checks, monitoring of formwork, reinforcement, backfilling and coordination with the project engineer and site team.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out on‑site concrete surface hardness testing using a rebound (Schmidt) hammer.
• Read, interpret and verify civil and structural engineering drawings and specifications.
• Conduct quality inspections of ongoing works and ensure compliance with approved documents.
• Inspect and witness acceptance of concealed works before they are covered.
• Monitor concrete works, including formwork, reinforcement, dimensions, curing and workmanship.
• Supervise backfilling and soil‑related works, checking material suitability, layer thickness and compaction.
• Maintain accurate inspection records, test reports and daily site reports.
• Liaise with contractors, subcontractors, surveyors and laboratory technicians.

Required profile

• Diploma, HND or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related field.
• Practical experience in civil/structural construction, site supervision or quality control is an advantage.
• Good knowledge of civil and structural construction methods and quality‑control procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, architectural and engineering drawings.

Required skills

• Performing concrete rebound hammer (Schmidt hammer) tests and interpreting results.
• Calibrating and operating rebound hammer equipment.
• Conducting concrete formwork, reinforcement and curing inspections.
• Monitoring backfilling, soil compaction and material suitability.
• Preparing and maintaining technical reports, inspection records and test documentation.
• Applying relevant engineering standards and inspection & test plans (ITPs).
