Legal Director – Mobile Financial Services

About the role

The Legal Director will sit on the Executive Team and provide strategic legal, regulatory and governance leadership for Telecel Ghana Mobile Financial Service Limited. The role ensures a robust legal and compliance framework that supports sustainable growth and protects the company’s reputation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a forward‑looking legal strategy aligned with business expansion, digital services and enterprise solutions.
• Advise the MD, CEO, Executive Committee and Board on major decisions, contracts, disputes and regulatory matters.
• Strengthen corporate governance, board processes and compliance culture in partnership with the Company Secretariat.
• Lead M&A, joint‑venture and partnership transactions, ensuring compliance and value creation.
• Oversee telecom, banking and other regulatory compliance, including AML/CFT, data protection, anti‑bribery and code‑of‑conduct adherence.
• Negotiate and draft high‑value commercial agreements and manage vendor/partner contracts.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal, regulatory and contractual risks across the business.
• Manage litigation, arbitration and external counsel relationships, ensuring cost‑effective case handling.
• Provide legal leadership during operational incidents, regulatory breaches or reputational crises.
• Lead, develop and succession‑plan the Legal team, fostering a culture of integrity and ethical conduct.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in corporate law, regulatory compliance and M&A within the telecom or financial services sector.
• Proven ability to advise senior executives and boards on complex legal matters.
• Strong understanding of Ghanaian telecom and banking regulations, AML/CFT and data protection laws.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing a legal team.
