Legal Officer (Assistant Registrar I)

About the role

The West African Examinations Council is recruiting a Legal Officer (Assistant Registrar I) for its Ghana National Office in Accra. The successful applicant reports to the Head of the Legal Department and performs legal work supporting the Council's objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and review contracts and other legal documents
• Conduct research on legal issues
• Represent the Council in court and before quasi-judicial bodies
• Serve as a member of Staff Investigating Committees
• Support the Head of the Legal Department and other divisions and departments
• Perform any other duties assigned

Required profile

• First degree (minimum, second class lower) from a recognised university, a professional qualification in law and practice as an advocate in Ghana
• O-Level certificate with credits in five subjects including English and Mathematics in one sitting, or six subjects in two sittings
• At least seven years of relevant post-qualification experience
• Age of 40 or under by the closing date of the advertisement

• Good organisational, coordination, communication and interpersonal skills
• Computer literacy
• Clear understanding of the Council's mandate and knowledge of WAEC laws
