Mechanical Technician – Shovel & Drill

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Technician specialized in shovels and drills to join Newmont’s Ahafo South mine in Ghana. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing heavy mining equipment to ensure high availability and safe operations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance routines and inspections on drills, shovels and support equipment.
• Generate work orders and raise job cards for any identified problems.
• Plan and coordinate own work schedule while collaborating with support services.
• Execute installations, repairs and troubleshooting in line with OEM specifications.
• Disassemble and re‑assemble major components for repair work.
• Ensure all lock‑out/tag‑out procedures are completed before work begins.
• Provide information on spare parts availability and stock levels.
• Assist specialists with more complex repairs and adhere to established operating manuals.

Required profile

• Ability to work independently and determine own work schedule.
• Strong understanding of OEM maintenance procedures and safety standards.
• Experience in handling breakdowns and performing both corrective and preventive maintenance.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following lock‑out/tag‑out protocols.
