Mechanical Technician – Surface Mine Infrastructure

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine and seeks an experienced Mechanical Technician to support surface mine infrastructure. The role involves maintaining and refurbishing critical mechanical equipment in a safe, compliant manner.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical maintenance on fridge plants, primary vent fans, generator sets, pastefill systems, and surface/river pumping equipment.
• Execute refurbishment tasks, conduct pre‑start checks, and report any equipment anomalies.
• Coordinate with contractors and construction teams to align work with project schedules.
• Provide data to the Maintenance Planner and close work orders in SAP.
• Ensure compliance with Ghana government regulations and AGAG safety and environmental standards.

Required profile

• Secondary education level with a certified mechanical trade apprenticeship (e.g., City & Guilds).
• At least five years of post‑apprenticeship experience in a mechanical trade.
• Familiarity with Ghana Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations.

Required skills

• Mechanical maintenance of industrial plant equipment.
• Operation and safe handling of cranes.
• Proficiency in SAP for work order management.
• Basic electrical trade competence.
