Mine Captain - Production

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a fully mechanized underground operation producing up to 5,000 tonnes of ore per day. It is seeking an experienced, self-motivated Mine Captain - Production, a regulatory mandated role that leads the Quality Assurance and Control and Risk Management function for all underground ore extraction activities.

Key responsibilities

• Establish Mine Production QA, QC, risk management and contractor engagement processes and procedures, and make the operation ready.
• Develop and communicate a rolling quarterly plan (4-3-2-1) covering priorities, milestones and events.
• Develop and submit the annual cost centre budget to meet approved Mine Production outputs.
• Deliver the Mining Production function within budget, timeframes, costs and KPIs.
• Lead on safety, health and sustainable development, integrating environmental management into the production plan.
• Build the Mine Production team and foster accountability and continuous improvement.
• Maintain constructive relationships with stakeholders to deliver the Mine plan.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or Diploma in Mining Engineering, or equivalent operational experience.
• Six to eight years of operational experience in underground development and open stoping mining.
• Mine Captain's Certificate of Competency or equivalent, as required by the Minerals Commission (Chief Inspector of Mines).

Required skills

• Leadership, managerial and technical skills for underground mining.
• Detailed knowledge of the mining operations value chain and data-driven decision making.
• Commercial acumen and familiarity with mining software.
• Advanced application of safety, mining production processes and planning.
• Contract management of mining contractors in an underground setting.
