Supervisor, Mechanical - Winders

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is hiring a Supervisor, Mechanical - Winders for its Engineering department at the Obuasi Mine. The role plans, supervises and controls work to keep all mine winders and hoisting equipment ready to operate, ensures they run safely and in line with mining regulations, and leads Mechanical Technicians and apprentices in maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, monitor and control all mechanical aspects of winders and shafts, including hoists, shaft work and underground material and personnel movement.
• Enforce isolation, lock-out/tag-out and permit-to-work requirements, and make sure risk assessments are done before critical tasks.
• Report incidents and near misses, take part in investigations and close out corrective actions and audit findings.
• Carry out planned task observations, workplace visits and inspections, and deliver safety management plan elements; enforce mine safety standards and HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.
• Supervise underground construction, refurbishment and maintenance in line with Government of Ghana approval conditions and the site's Environmental Management Plan.
• Manage preventive and corrective maintenance of winding equipment (drums, brakes, gearboxes, motors, ropes, electrical safety circuits) and coordinate with electrical, instrumentation, planning, mining and contractors for shutdowns.
• Oversee rope inspection, lubrication, EMRT, rope changes and recaps, cage and skip inspections, sheave wheel checks and gearbox monitoring (oil, vibration, temperature, alignment).
• Develop and run a maintenance program, keep logbooks, inspection records and equipment registers, and report downtime, defects and KPIs to the Mechanical Superintendent or Senior Specialist.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults, manage critical spare parts inventory, and assist in preparing the sectional budget.
• Lead engineering studies such as FMEA, root cause analysis and risk assessments, and implement cost-reduction initiatives.
• Deliver safety training, define subordinate roles, run training plans, maintain a skills matrix and support recruitment and succession planning.
