Mine Captain – Production (Underground Mining)

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti is finalising the redevelopment of the Obuasi Gold Mine and seeks an experienced Mine Captain – Production to lead quality assurance, risk management and production planning for underground ore extraction.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain QA, QC, risk management and contractor engagement processes for the mine redevelopment.
• Develop and communicate a rolling quarterly (4‑3‑2‑1) production plan, identifying priorities, milestones and events.
• Prepare and submit the annual cost‑centre budget and ensure production targets are met within approved budgets, timelines and KPIs.
• Demonstrate safety leadership, promote a strong safety culture and integrate environmental management into production plans.
• Provide systems, resources and expertise to develop the production team and drive continuous improvement.
• Implement projects and strategies while fostering accountability across the mining department.
• Build and maintain constructive stakeholder relationships to deliver the mine plan effectively.

Required profile

• B.Sc. or Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent operational experience.
• Six to eight years of operational experience in underground development and open‑stope mining.
• Valid Mine Captain’s Certificate of Competency (or equivalent) as required by the Minerals Commission.
• Strong leadership, managerial and technical skills relevant to underground mining.
• Ability to interpret data, make tactical decisions and demonstrate commercial acumen.
• Familiarity with mining software and advanced safety risk assessment.
