Mortuary Technician

About the role

The Mortuary Technician will support the newly opening Bank Hospital mortuary in Accra, ensuring bodies are received, stored, and prepared for post‑mortem examinations with the highest standards of care and professionalism.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, store, and release bodies while maintaining proper conditions and documentation.
• Prepare bodies for post‑mortem examinations and assist pathologists during autopsies.
• Replace organs, restore bodies after autopsy, and handle organ donation requests.
• Label and manage specimens for histology, photography, or research.
• Provide compassionate liaison with relatives and adhere to customer service protocols.
• Maintain mortuary cleanliness, safety, and equipment efficiency.
• Coordinate stock of consumables, reagents, and ensure document control compliance.
• Assist with high‑risk post‑mortems, specialized techniques, and training of junior staff.

Required profile

• Diploma in Anatomical Pathology or equivalent qualification.
• Membership of a relevant professional body (if applicable).
• Experience in mortuary or post‑mortem environments is preferred.
• Ability to work sensitively with bereaved families and multidisciplinary teams.
