National Consultant – Climate‑Resilient Sanitation Monitoring Tools

About the role

UNICEF is looking for a National Consultant to develop standard tools for monitoring and assessing climate‑resilient safely managed sanitation at the district level in Ghana. The assignment is remote, lasts 272 days, and supports UNICEF’s effort to improve sanitation data systems and achieve SDG targets.

Key responsibilities

• Design and pilot a monitoring framework aligned with Sustainable Development Goal indicators for safely managed sanitation.
• Develop data collection tools, templates and guidelines for district authorities.
• Integrate sanitation indicators with health data on diarrhoea, typhoid, polio and worm infections.
• Provide technical support and capacity‑building to local partners for data quality assurance.
• Produce analytical reports and recommendations for agile decision‑making.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in public health, environmental science, water‑sanitation‑hygiene (WASH) or a related field.
• Proven experience in monitoring and evaluation of sanitation programmes, preferably in Ghana or similar contexts.
• Familiarity with district‑level administrative structures and climate‑resilient sanitation approaches.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
