Payroll Officer

About the role

AngloGold Ashanti Ghana is redeveloping the Obuasi Gold Mine into a modern, mechanised operation. We are looking for an experienced, self‑motivated Payroll Officer to provide key payroll support and ensure accurate, timely payment of staff wages, salaries and related benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Set up new recruits in the payroll system, including earnings and deductions such as duty allowance and provident fund.
• Process payroll for all pay groups, including employees and government agencies (IRS & SNNIT), ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Prepare monthly basic salary reconciliations and payment requisitions for approval.
• Support implementation of statutory laws, company policies and collective bargaining agreements.
• Investigate and resolve payroll inquiries from HR, government agencies and employees.
• Generate and distribute payroll reports (pay slips, bank listings, leave accruals, GL entries, tax, social security, Tier reports).
• Liaise with pension fund managers and address employee queries.
• Assist with employee payroll, leave, back pay, annual bonus and month‑end processes.

Required profile

• A degree or HND in Accounting or equivalent.
• Minimum four years’ payroll experience in a mining environment.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills.
• High ethical standards and result‑oriented mindset.

Required skills

• Proficiency in spreadsheets.
