Production Control Room Operator

About the role

The Production Control Room Operator works from the Central Control Room on an offshore FPSO, operating DCS, Fire and Gas, and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems to ensure safe and efficient production. The role involves rotating shifts and close collaboration with a second CRO to monitor and optimise plant processes.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor DCS, Fire and Gas, and ESD systems, responding to emergencies and plant upsets according to approved procedures.
• Support the Production Supervisor and CRO 2 in start‑ups, shutdowns, plant stabilisation, equipment changeovers and abnormal operating conditions.
• Maintain accurate shift logs, alarm summaries, production data and handover notes.
• Communicate operational status and instructions between the control room, field operators, maintenance teams and marine operations.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 in Hydrocarbon Processing Operations or equivalent.
• At least five years of field process experience in offshore or similar environments.
• Minimum HND in Mechanical, Petroleum, Chemical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience with safe systems of work, permit‑to‑work procedures and supervisory duties offshore.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Distributed Control System (DCS) operation.
• Knowledge of Fire and Gas and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, cause‑and‑effect diagrams and vendor drawings.
• Experience monitoring process parameters, alarms, trends and operating limits across crude oil processing, gas compression, water treatment and related utilities.
